The above reflects the anticipated annual salary range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Our Lead Paraprofessional Technician works collaboratively to promote optimal development and prevent psychological trauma in hospitalized children, adolescents, and youth navigating complex developmental milestones. Operating within our active RU Cares clinic at Children’s Specialized Hospital, our clinical technicians deliver life-changing applied behavior analytic (ABA) services for pediatric patients diagnosed with developmental disabilities and pediatric feeding disorders. We view our clinical support staff as a critical component of the multidisciplinary care team and recognize the incredibly positive impact they have on the healing journeys and healthcare outcomes of our patients and their families. We hope you are excited by the opportunity to redefine the patient experience through teamwork, compassion, and excellence within the RWJBarnabas Health network!

A Typical Day

  • ABA Therapy Execution: Conducting structured clinical therapy sessions with pediatric patients using standard procedures under the direct guidance of a professional Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or licensed psychologist.
  • Program Implementation: Assisting with the development, deployment, and tracking of crucial behavior-reduction programs (including extinction protocols and functional communication training) and skill-acquisition programs (increasing food acceptance, self-feeding, or social skills).
  • Data & Statistical Analysis: Creating data-collection protocols, meticulously entering treatment metrics into spreadsheets, generating progress graphs, performing initial analysis of findings, and presenting recommendations to a professional behavior analyst.
  • Clinical Documentation: Preparing detailed initial drafts of session materials, progress notes, and reporting behavioral observations or environmental factors in highly observable and measurable terms.
  • Caregiver & Staff Training: Assisting clinical faculty in training parents, school personnel, and caregivers to maximize treatment continuity at home, while supporting the onboarding of incoming technicians.
  • Intake & Facility Navigation: Collaborating fluidly with the healthcare team to support daily patient intake, functional assessment, clinical treatment, and complex discharge procedures.
  • Unit Safety & S.A.F.E.T.Y Leadership: Maintaining perfect organization and cleanliness of treatment spaces while modeling universal standards by speaking up for safety, practicing S.T.A.R. protocols, and looking out for team members.

This Role Might Be For You If

  • You are deeply passionate about creating and delivering a differentiated, high-quality healthcare experience for children and adolescents with unique behavioral and developmental needs.
  • You are highly resilient, maintaining a calm, structured, and positive demeanor when working through severe challenging behaviors such as aggression, self-injury, elopement, food expulsion, or vomiting.
  • You set a high bar for yourself and others to maintain a safe, welcoming, and highly therapeutic environment for your patients and their families.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment and naturally use a sensitive, positive tone in all multidisciplinary interactions.
  • You possess strong physical stamina, coordination, and manual dexterity to move, stand, or sit for long periods, with the capacity to independently lift up to 50 pounds (and assist with weights over 100 pounds).

To Be Considered

  • Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Preference is heavily given to individuals actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in child development, psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Certifications: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Experience: Prior experience working directly with individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities, pediatric feeding disorders, or complex behavioral diagnoses within an educational, instructional, or therapeutic setting is highly preferred.
