The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.
Summary:
The Domestic Violence Advocate, employed and supervised by The Safe House, will provide Advocacy to victims of Domestic Violence and their children and assistance to on site staff when needed.
A typical day as a Counselor may look like:
- Assist Case Workers with Client cases
- Crisis Intervention
- Assisting clients in developing a service plan
- Assist client s in developing a safety plan
- Referring clients to other on-site or community partners based on clients needs
- Provide individual support counseling to assist victims of Domestic Violence to recognize their own strengths and develop their own capabilities
- Maintain accurate and confidential records
- Transporting clients to other social service agencies such as Welfare, Court or Police stations
- Answer hotline calls providing resources and referrals
- Other duties as assigned by the Director or Coordinator
To be considered the role, you must have:
- Bachelor s degree in a related field preferred or minimum of 3 years experience working in the Domestic Violence field
- Completion of 40 hour Domestic Violence Training preferred (or to be completed within 6 months of hire)
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Good communication skills and ability to work cooperatively and independently
- Demonstrates experience with and sensitivity to varying cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds, values and attitudes
